Fabrizio Laganà, born in Rome on January 16, 1965, also known as Mr. Roots 'n' Culture, writer, record collector, DJ, promoter of concerts and evenings and lover of reggae music since 1977; in his city he collaborated on some music programs at Radio Città Futura in 1982-83 and in 1995 at Power Radio Station;

worked at the Good Stuff Promotion of Marco Provvedi "Mukandi Lal" and Fernando Pallone, an organization of reggae concerts and tours both in Rome and throughout Italy in the period 1984-1991;

 

​He wrote various articles about reggae artists and the history of reggae in magazines and fanzines in the period 1985 - 1989;

he traveled to London and Jamaica to make some interviews with the best artists and musicians;

from June 1996 to June 1997 he managed a part of a record shop,

named as 'Roots'n'Culture Records', specialized in the sale of imported reggae discs from all over the world with rarities in LPs, and the entire catalog of CDs, 45 rpm, Discomix, Videos, T-Shirts, Magazines, and cassettes ;

in April 1998 he decided to build a Sound System together with other fans and call it 'Soul Roots' and we participated in numerous live sessions throughout Italy, as Dj selecter until 2002;

in July 1999 he continued to write some articles on the Italian reggae music magazine Rasta Snob, where he dedicated some Special Tributes to some artists and veterans of reggae history who disappeared in 1999 such as: Augustus Pablo, Dennis Brown, I-Roy, Prince Lincoln Thompson and Joe Higgs;

 

from 2000 to 2006 he wrote for "Reggae Revolution" articles on Peter Tosh, Dennis Alcapone, Rod Taylor, Michael Rose, Black Uhuru, Maurice "Blacka Morwell" Wellington, Desmond Dekker, Laurel Aitken, Junior Delgado, Barry Brown, Marcia Griffiths, Junior Byles;

in June 2000, he decided to publish the result of all the work done during all my 30 years dedicated to reggae (1977-2007), following the career of each artist and producer from the beginning, writing his first book entitled " Massive Reggae Discography ”, containing a cd rom with 1770 alphabetical discographies per artist;

in September 2001 until 2005 together with other reggae fans he formed the No Profit organization 'Sos Jamaica' for events in support of awareness campaigns towards Jamaica, against the death penalty and against all judicial and extrajudicial cases remained unsolved ;

in July 2004 the second book "100 Dischi Ideali Per Capire Il Reggae" (Editori Riuniti) was published which was officially presented on May 7, 2005 in Sassari at the Messaggerie Sarde bookshop, on April 14, 2006 in Matera at the Conference Hall in Le Monacelle complex and on June 16, 2006 in Salerno at the Campus In Festa, at the University of Salerno in Fisciano;

also on June 16 in Salerno he held a conference and debate entitled: 'Reggae, music, philosophy and culture' at the Faculty of Law at the University of Salerno;

 

in February 2005 he wrote some articles on the music magazine JAM (number 112) on the occasion of Bob Marley's 60th birthday;

in October 2005 together with Francesco Cenci (reggae musician) they founded the Cultural Association 'Social Reggae Project', a non-profit organization for social events and to collaborate with voluntary associations;

on April 24, 2006 in Rome they organized the first great event of the newly formed cultural association, with Winston Francis (Studio One) together with the Roman band of Radio Maroon in support of four voluntary associations;

on June 13, 2006 the second major event was organized in Naples at the Palapartenope, with Winston Francis and A.J. Franklyn together with the Neapolitan band One Foundation assisted by the producer and singer Hobo aka Mariano Caiano, in support of the Jolibà association;

in October 2006 he edited the preface and participated in the realization of the first compilation a CD dedicated to the 25 years of the death of the great Bob Marley, with cover songs of Italian singers and groups, entitled 'Italian Reggae Tribute', the proceeds of which sales were donated to the Exodus Cultural Association for Ethiopia;

on July 12, 2007 he participated in the "Reggae University" conference at the Rototom Festival in Osoppo (Udine) presenting both two books on reggae music, and finally on September 8, 2007, a new crew named "Melody Roots Sound and Promotion was inaugurated "and on September 22, to celebrate his 30 years of reggae activity, they organized an evening with Earl Sixteen at the Forte Prenestino in Rome, to also promote the latest record news of the great Jamaican artist.

 

On 9 April 2008 he was a guest in Addis Ababa Ethiopia for the first time for a series of meetings aimed at getting to know the music scene, social issues, and aid to schools in the field, with contacts also regarding the situation of Rasta in the Shashamane village.

On July 6, 2008 he was invited to "Reggae University" during the Rototom Sunsplash Festival.

 

On 25 and 26 July 2008 he participated in the development and programming of the first festival in Rome, entirely dedicated to the conscious side of Afro and Reggae music and to the Dancehall connected to it; the Conscious Romasplash also supported and supported the projects of some Italian non-profit associations and NGOs that work in favor of the weaker peoples. In this sense, the collaboration with EMERGENCY and FRIENDS FOR WATER was born, which were present within the event with their stands.

Part of the proceeds from the event was donated to aid projects for African countries in these associations.

On September 13, 2008 the Melody Roots Sound and Promotion organized and participated together with the boys of the CSOA Spartaco, at the "White Night" at the Parco degli Acquedotti al Tuscolano in front of an audience of 15,000 spectators, together with One Love Hi-Powa and Brusco.

The last evening organized together with the "Melody Roots Sound and Promotion" takes place on December 20, 2008 with the arrival of Earl Sixteen from London for an amazing evening.

 

2009 begins in February in the name of the fourth reprint of the first book "Massive Reggae Discography", with various updates in all its chapters.

 

From 15 October 2009 to the controls of the new radio broadcast entitled "ITAL VIBES" broadcast on www.radiotsunami.org every Sunday from 2.30 to 5.30 pm, in the name of the dissemination of the excellent record productions of reggae, and also broadcasting on www.fusoradio .net for the programming of Fusodub 2.0, every fourth Tuesday of the month from 21 to 22.30.

On May 7, 2010 in Rome at the Big Bang, he organized an evening called "Reggae History Live", with the Shanty Band concert which retraced the history of reggae for four decades, as a DJ and video maker for the entire evening.

 

Subsequently, ITAL VIBES always airs on www.fusoradio.net every 4th Thursday of the month from 19.30 to 21 and in the new 2012-2013 season I will present the new format with CHARTS REALITY, in which every episode will be told and played all genres that make up that great chessboard called "REGGAE MUSIC" starting from the SKA and continuing up to our days.

 

Starting from November 2013, the new format of ITAL VIBES takes the name of ITAL VIBES NEVER DIE, a story spanning two seasons, therefore 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 where all those artists who have left their stories, the their interviews, their artistic paths and their respective songs are played to date by sound systems, radios and record collectors. The episodes are broadcast from 19.30 to 21 on the first and third Tuesday of the month, always on www.fusoradio.net.

Again with regard to radio, ITAL VIBES NEVER DIE continues with another appointment on www.radiorsunami.org every Sunday from 18 to 19.30 starting from November 2014.

Columnist in the new "DUBOLOGY" magazine dedicated to reggae, roots and dub music since December 2014 with the release of the first issue.

 

From February 2011 to October 2015 a new adventure called “Taverna di Lulù" begins, moving to Greece in Kastrosikia Beach for the opening of this Tavern near the sea.

From October 2016 the new broadcast of ITAL VIBES LONG PLAYING begins every 1 and 3 Friday of the month from 19 to 20 on the frequencies of www.radiosonar.net and from October 2017 Ital Vibes becomes "ITAL VIBES TOP 10 HISTORY", on the air every Friday of the month from 19 to 20.

In December 2017 he wrote in collaboration with Luca Brindisino the book "Febbre A 33 Giri" published for PM Edizioni.

In July 2018 he collaborates and participates in the first edition of the new festival "Roots & Culture Festival" at Camping Girasole, as a speaker at conferences and DJ sets. In July 2019 I participate in the second edition of the "Roots & Culture Festival" at Camping Girasole and from 15 to 23 August 2019 guest at Rototom Sunsplash Benicassim Spain as DJ selecter in the Caribbean Uptempo tent.

From 12 October 2019 a new format of the broadcast of ITAL VIBES has started, now in its tenth year, entitled "The Italian Reggae Labels" always every Saturday from 11.30 to 12.30 on www.radiosonar.net where in each episode, a different label will be presented Italian reggae and the chosen songs.

On Saturday 18 January 2020 he participated as a DJ at the evening at Csoa Zapata in Genoa together with the Ganja Farmers Sound System with the guest from London of the Channel One Sound System assisted by singer Ramon Judah.
